Divine Devotion in Oakville: Hindu Canadian Foundation Hosts 7th Annual Kawad Yatra

On August 9th, Oakville witnessed a powerful display of faith, unity, and spiritual celebration as the Hindu Canadian Foundation successfully hosted its seventh annual Kawad Yatra. This sacred tradition, now seven years strong, continues to bring the Hindu community together in reverence of Bhagwan Shiv during the auspicious Shravan Month.

The Hindu Canadian Foundation holds the distinction of being the first organization to initiate the Kawad Yatra in North America, creating a platform for devotees to honor Lord Shiva and celebrate Shravan with deep devotion. What began as a modest gathering has evolved into a vibrant spiritual movement that grows stronger each year. The Divine Walk Begins, at 8:00 AM, hundreds of devotees gathered at the Vaishno Devi Temple premises, marking the start of the Yatra with a divine walk. Participants adorned themselves with Tripund Tilak, chanted “Har Har Mahadev,” and moved through the temple grounds in a serene and peaceful atmosphere that radiated spiritual energy.

A Living Symbol of Devotion

In a heartwarming gesture, the praroop (embodiment) of Bhagwan Shiv was represented by young Vivaan, who led the Yatra with grace and innocence. Devotees performed Jalabhishek the sacred water offering to Lord Shiva, followed by collective chanting and prayers for the well-being of the community.

Seva and Satvik Hospitality: After the spiritual rituals, attendees were served FREE satvik food, lovingly prepared without onion or garlic to honor traditional Hindu dietary customs. In addition, FREE Gangajal holy water from the Ganga was distributed to all devotees which was offered to Bhagwan Shiva.

A Tradition That Grows With Faith: Despite challenges, the Hindu Canadian Foundation remains unwavering in its commitment to continue the Kawad Yatra. Each year, the event grows in participation and spiritual impact, becoming a cornerstone of Hindu cultural life in Canada. The Kawad Yatra is more than a ritual it’s a living expression of dharma, devotion, and community spirit.
